Board of Education (Parish)
Objective:
(From St. Paul's Church Constitution)
This Board
shall plan and administer the total education program of the congregation.
This Board shall determine policies, select personnel for the various agencies,
provide the necessary means and facilities for the agencies, and direct and
supervise the entire education program of the congregation. This shall be
accomplished as expressed in the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19-20)
The Board of Education (Parish
Division) shall consist of seven (7) members. This board shall be
responsible for the operation of all other education agencies of the
congregation. Each of the seven (7) members shall serve a three (3) year
term of office. Two (2) members shall be elected in year one of the
election cycle, two (2) members shall be elected in year two, and three (3)
members shall be elected in year three. A member shall not succeed himself for an
additional term. The Director of Christian Education,
and Sunday School Superintendent shall be ex-officio members of this board.
The Board of Education (Parish) shall be responsible for the following:
- Public School Confirmation
Classes
- Vacation Bible School
- Sunday School
- Bible Studies
- Family Life
- Singles
- Boy Scouts/Girls Scouts
- Cradle Roll
The Board of Education (Parish) shall assume the
following duties:
- Be responsible for the
Christian nurture of children, youth, and adults in the congregation and,
through them, in the community at large.
- Encourage the congregation
to establish agencies and organizations that help the parish perform its
educational task for each specific age level.
- Establish objectives for,
set policies for, and supervise the total educational program for each
education agency in the congregation, including personnel who serve these
agencies.
- Delegate the
administration of educational agencies to qualified persons. Provide a
list of candidates when a vacancy exists in any of these agencies.
- Enlist, train, place and
continue to train lay teachers and leaders as the congregation's need
requires.
- Establish a system of
commendation for and recognition of faithful service by all persons involved
in the educational task of the congregation.
- Approve the curriculum and
analyze the performance of each educational agency and seek constant
improvement.
- Continually review
existing agencies to determine whether all age groups are being served, and
recommend revisions and additions as necessary.
- Make annual analysis, by
age groups, to determine the degree of participation of the total membership
of the congregation in its educational programs.
- Maintain a "people
accounting system" to record members' participation in the educational
programs and to contact the uninvolved.
- Work with organizations
and other board and committees to coordinate educational activities within
the congregation
- Be concerned, together
with the Board of Youth, for the assimilation of newly confirmed youth into
appropriate agencies for study and activity.
- Provide, in conjunction
with the Board of Witness and Outreach, for the recruitment of pupils for
the educational agencies of the church.
- Establish and maintain a
permanent file of all children and youth of the congregation by age and
grade level and update it annually.
- Consider special classes,
courses, conferences, retreats and the like for special purposes and for
special groups.
- Consider provisions for
educational opportunities for individuals with special needs.
- Encourage Christian
education programs in all societies of the congregation.
- Establish and maintain, in
conjunction with other boards, a continuing program for the recruitment of
full-time workers in the church-at-large.
- Meet during the month of
June to re-organize for the coming year. All out-going and
newly-elected members shall be present to insure a continuity of programs
and activities.
- Elect one member to serve
as Chairman and one member to serve as Secretary. The Chairman shall also serve as a member of the Parish
Planning Council. The Secretary shall keep a
permanent set of minutes of each meeting and such minutes shall be the
property of the congregation. A copy of the minutes shall also be
given to the President of the congregation.
- Establish job descriptions
and responsibilities for each member of this board.
- Submit an annual budget as
requested by the Parish Planning Council and the Financial Administrator.
- Request a financial review if necessary, from any organization, group or committee for which it is
responsible.
- Present a report of its
activities at each regular meeting of the Congregational Assembly.
